Thank you for considering my candidacy for a seat at the Oak Bay Council table

I am a graduate of Oak Bay High School and a long time resident of our beautiful Municipality.

After high school I went on to study Economics at the University of Victoria and then Law at Dalhousie University. Since I graduated from Law School in 1986 I have been engaged in the private practice of law in Victoria. My law practice has been primarily litigation, both criminal and civil. I have appeared in all levels of court in British Columbia. I have worked as defence counsel and also as ad hoc Crown. As a lawyer I have represented a diverse group of people from all walks of life and typically at times of crisis in their lives.

I was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2013.

I spent seven years chairing a quasi judicial tribunal responsible for conducting appeals of Employment Insurance claims.

I have been active as a volunteer in my profession both locally and internationally. I served on the Executive of the Victoria Bar Association for almost 20 years primarily as its Social Coordinator. I was twice elected by my colleagues to represent them on the Provincial Council of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. I was awarded the Pamela Murray Award for constantly maintaining high professional standards and making significant contribution to the well being of the local Bar. I have been an active participant with the International Criminal Bar and was elected to its governing council and ultimately as President.

Let's get to know each other...

I am an avid gardener and produce many pounds of tomatoes each year on my lot. Like many of you, I took up baking sourdough after March of 2020.

Anyone who knows me even a little knows that I am obsessively opposed to waste of any kind, especially food waste.

I am married and the mother of two adult children who were raised in this community. I am absolutely crazy about my young Black Labrador dog named Reggie!

I served the community in the following capacities:

  • Community Representative to the Leadership Council, Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness
  • Treasurer, BC Association of Police Boards
  • Guest lecturer, UVic Law School
  • Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board
  • Board Member and President, Victoria Inter-Cultural Association

I continue to serve as:

  • Chair, Canadian Heritage Arts Society which governs the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Oak Bay
  • Board Member, Vancouver Island Trail Association
